26FW｜CARVED LEATHER E TRAINER

This shoe started with the German Trainer. We’ve always loved its simple, timeless structure, but this time we wanted to do something a little different: we brought in the heel of a leather dress shoe and added the carved motif that Professor.E keeps coming back to, landing it somewhere between a sneaker and a leather shoe.

For the upper, we went with natural horsehide. Compared to leather that’s been treated for a flawless, uniform surface, we much prefer the natural grain of horsehide. It feels a little stiff at first, but it softens the more you wear it, and the upper creases in its own way, following the way you walk. That means no two pairs end up looking the same.

We intentionally left out the toe stiffener. Most shoes have a reinforcing layer in the toe to hold the shape upright, but we took it out. Without that extra structure, the toe gradually molds to your foot and takes on a really natural shape.

It’s made with traditional Blake stitch construction. The insole and outsole are stitched directly together, which cuts out the bulkier layers in between, so the shoe feels light and keeps a clean proportion. More importantly, unlike most sneakers, it isn’t glued together. When the sole wears down, you can have it repaired or resoled and keep wearing them.

Finally, for the outsole, we used vegetable-tanned leather, the same material you’ll find on traditional leather shoes.
